A Joyful, Welcoming, Inclusive Community of Faith

Welcome Vivian!

Many of us had the good fortune to hear Vivian Hare play here for the first time this past summer, on July 10th to be exact.

For the prelude she played In Thee Is Gladness on our glorious organ.  On the second hymn, Come! Live in the Light!, she harmonized with Doug and Darcy Orr, with Vivian on piano, Doug on guitar and Darcy on dulcimer.  By the end of the service, many of our members were asking if she would consider leaving her position at the church she was then serving to join our staff.

The good news for us is that she did!

This past Sunday, September 25th, our hopes were realized, and we joyfully welcomed Vivian Hare as our new Director of Music.

Vivian at OrganTo start her first worship service here, Vivian joined with Steve Runholt on a musical Call to Worship (and forgave him when he got so excited about doing the call with her that he forgot the prelude).  She met each of our children one by one during the Time for the Child in Us All, and joined hands with them as Steve led them all in a prayer of blessing for Vivian’s time with us.

She chimed in during the sermon to accompany Steve in a call and response version of “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” (sung with the congregation).  And she closed out the service with a glorious version of Now Thank We All Our God.

Vivian met with potential choir members before the service, and continued to meet other potential members after worship, at a reception in the Ransom Fellowship Hall in her honor.  Joining Vivian for the occasion were her husband, Keith Grogg, pastor of Montreat Presbyterian Church, her son, John (a recent graduate of Duke University), and her mother, Clara Hare.

As we move into this new chapter of our church’s story, Vivian is very excited about what the future holds.  She plans to hold choir rehearsals at 7 pm on Wednesdays. We look forward to the return of our choir this coming Sunday (World Communion Sunday and Homecoming weekend), with a mixture of treasured familiar voices and perhaps a few new ones as well.

We are so grateful to the search committee that brought Vivian to us (Corise Gambrell, Diana Sanderson and Doug Orr), and we are excited to have our new Director of Music on our staff.

Thank you, Vivian, for saying yes to God’s call to join us!  And welcome to the Warren Wilson Presbyterian Church family!
