Choir & Music

I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
                                          Psalm 104:33

The music we share in worship is a vibrant and creative expression of our faith.  Through the foundation of congregational song, we offer praise, adoration, confession, and thanksgiving in the hymns and responses we sing.

Glory to God

We sing from the new hymnal, Glory to God, which provides a beautiful range of music that weaves together song and prayer in fresh and vibrant ways that greatly enhance our corporate worship experience.

Beyond hymns, musical expression during worship includes choral anthems and instrumental offerings, all through a diversity of styles and sounds — classical to contemporary, global music of the world church, African-American spirituals, Appalachian music, contemplative and Taize-style chants, and more.

Our music is led by organ, piano, flute, guitar, percussion, and other instruments.

Chapel Choir

The Chapel Choir sings for the 11:00 worship service each Sunday during most of the year. The choir provides service to the church through musical leadership in worship, as well as good fellowship among those who enjoy singing together.

On the first Sunday of the month, we also share the gift of music at the nearby Veterans’ Medical Center.

Rehearsals are 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. each Wednesday and will include a diverse repertoire of anthems and choral offerings.

Whether you are a professional vocalist or a musical novice, you can share and develop your talent with the choir.  All adults and students are welcome.  No prior choral experience is necessary – and we always have room for new members.  The ability to read music is appreciated but not required.  A weekly commitment to rehearsals and Sunday morning services is expected.

Instrumental Song

Instrumental song is another beautiful gift in worship, one that greatly enhances the worship experience.

Our Sunday morning worship is anchored by our pipe organ: a 1967 Schantz with 27 pipe ranks.  It was installed after the Chapel was built, in 1964. In 2009, the congregation undertook a major renovation of the instrument, including a new custom-built console and the addition of 50+ Walker digital voices.

Beyond the organ, our musical inventory contains the following instruments: a 5’4” Bechstein piano; a three-octave set of hand bells; a set of hand chimes; two brand new sets of drums — a pair of congas and a pair of bongos.  But our worship services have also recently featured flute, harp, bagpipes, violins/fiddles, guitar, dulcimer and even a didgeridoo!

If you play proficiently, are welcome to offer your musical gifts here!

We invite you to consider offering your musical talents in worship, and to let us know your willingness to help lead our services.

If you have questions about our music program, please contact our Director of Music through the church office at (828) 298-9092.
