Announcements for January 18, 2026

WELCOME VISITORS If you are worshiping here for the first time today, welcome! We are glad to have you with us. Please fill out a visitor information card, located on the right as you enter the chapel, and place it in the offering plate.

OFFERING Plates are just inside the doors to the chapel as you enter and exit. Our gifts take many forms: open-hearted presence here, voices lifted in song, the prayers that rise in us, the material gifts we share with neighbors, and our willingness to live in a world as allies and advocates for those whose needs are overlooked. The monies we bring symbolize the offering of our lives in all circumstances. A separate labeled basket is available each week to receive Our Daily Change offerings.

COMMUNITY JOYS AND CONCERNS: If you would like to add or update a prayer request, please contact the church office.

We celebrate: Donna Eagle Joslin and Sherrie Meehan  for planting daffodil bulbs in the Peace Garden which will be a joy to us in the Spring ⸰ The ongoing work of the Pastor Nominating Committee

We remember in prayer: Ron Vinson at Mountain Ridge Healthcare, recovering following a fall ⸰ Betty Siviter healing following cataract surgery ⸰ Blake Joslin, who fell on 12/29 and fractured his right clavicle, now regaining strength at the Laurels ⸰ Mary Fran Spencer home now following a stay at the hospital

THE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT TEAM will meet after the service today to prepare a recommendation to the Session regarding what funding support the congregation should provide for our ministry partners. All are welcome to attend the meeting to participate in the discussion.

GUEST PREACHER Winn Legerton joined WWPC two years ago after being acquainted with the congregation for decades. Her leadership roles in previous churches include a first career serving in campus ministry and as associate pastor (teaching elder, PCUS) in Charlottesville, VA. Later,  in Greensboro, NC, for thirty years, she was an active church member at First Presbyterian Church and served as an ordained ruling elder. In both Charlottesville and Greensboro, she spent several years getting to know the Quaker tradition and participating in Friends’ Meetings. Winn’s move to the mountains in 2018 was initially to Montreat and then to Black Mountain. She is grateful to have landed in the WWPC community.

Winn went to the College of William and Mary (BA in sociology) and Yale Divinity School (MDiv, 1975). After years in professional ministry, she shifted to teaching and facilitation in leadership development and organizational behavior. In Greensboro she was employed at the Center for Creative Leadership as a faculty member, program manager, and project manager in instructional design and product development.

Winn and her husband John J. Young enjoyed a 25-year marriage until his death in 2016. Their family included John’s two adult children and their daughter Hannah, who still lives in Greensboro. Winn is close with her two brothers and their extended families in Asheville and eastern NC.

Winn’s introduction to the Warren Wilson community came through her parents. Having retired from pastoral ministry in Atlanta, Fitz & Emmy Lou Legerton moved to Montreat and Fitz served as Director of Church Relations at the College (1993-2005). They were devoted to WWPC, with Emmy Lou as a church member for more than twenty years until her death, and then Fitz’s continued presence until his death in February 2024.

MORE HELPERS NEEDED to assist the Habitat for Humanity construction crew build House of Faith #5 in West Asheville. Many spots have been filled by church members, but we still have unfilled half day (8:15 – noon) shifts reserved for Friday, Feb. 27, and full day shifts (8:15 – 3) on Saturday, Jan. 24 and Feb. 7. Work will be indoors in heated spaces, or outdoors if weather permits. No experience is needed, only a willingness to help. Contact Larry Griswold to sign up.

INCLEMENT WEATHER We recognize that winter weather can make having worship challenging.  On icy Sundays we will begin using text and/or e-mail to let you know.  If you’re unsure if the church has your updated phone number or e-mail address please contact the church office.

ANNUAL & CALLED CONGREGATIONAL MEETING will be at the end of worship next Sunday.  We will receive our Annual Report and our budget for 2026.  In addition, there will be a report from the Pastor Nominating Committee, as well as a vote on terms of call for our new pastor.  Mark your calendars and plan on attending.
