Responding to Houston

Dear friends,

The tragedy unfolding in Houston (and southeast Texas more generally) is weighing heavily on our hearts.  I’m sure that many of you are already wondering how best to respond.

Right now the most immediate need is for relief support and assistance for the millions of people displaced from their homes.  This support includes food, temporary shelter, and access to clean water and medical care.

Having lived through a flood myself, one in which my family lost our home, I can tell you that the Red Cross plays a unique and vital role in providing such assistance.

To make an immediate $10 donation to the Red Cross, you can simply text HARVEY to 90999.

To make a larger donation, or one using a credit or debit card, you can visit: www.redcross.org/donate/hurricane-harvey?campname=Harvey&campmedium=aspot

The effort to rebuild Houston will not even begin until the flood waters recede. In the weeks and months to come, there will be many opportunities to participate in that effort financially or, perhaps for some of us, with a hands-on contribution to the clean-up and rebuilding process.

We will keep you apprised of the work Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is doing to respond to this crisis, and we will alert you to any opportunities we learn about to participate directly in this effort.
