WELCOME VISITORS If you are worshiping here for the first time today, welcome! We are glad to have you with us. Please fill out a visitor information card, located on the right as you enter the chapel, and place it in the offering plate.
OFFERING Plates are just inside the doors to the chapel or scan the QR code on the back of this bulletin. Our gifts take many forms: open-hearted presence here, voices lifted in song, the prayers that rise in us, the material gifts we share with neighbors, and our willingness to live in a world as allies and advocates for those whose needs are overlooked. The monies we bring symbolize the offering of our lives in all circumstances. A separate labeled basket is available each week to receive Our Daily Change offerings.
COMMUNITY JOYS AND CONCERNS: If you would like to add or update a prayer request, please contact the church office.
We celebrate summer and remember in prayer all those in our community who are traveling or spending time in rest and renewal with friends and family.
CHAMBER MUSIC SOCIETY Once again we are hosting the Chamber Music Society of the Carolinas in our sanctuary. They will be holding many rehearsals over the next few weeks and four different concerts each Saturday night through August 1 at 7:30. More information and tickets are available at cms-carolinas.org/
SVCM 50th ANNIVERSARY Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry (SVCM) will mark its 50th anniversary with a free community celebration on Friday, July 24, 2026! SVCM will host the celebration at Hammer & Heart’s new workshop at 695 NC-9 in Black Mountain. Live music, food, and children’s activities will run from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with an official blessing and ribbon cutting at 6 p.m. All are invited!
CALENDARS It’s that time of year where we order the 2026-27 Presbyterian Planning Calendars (they cover September ’26-December ’27). Many of you have used these in previous years and know what valuable resources they can be. If you would like one for the coming year and want to be a part of the church’s bulk pricing let Andrew know. They are $16 each. Deadline to order is Monday, July 27.
AUGUST 2 WORSHIP On Sunday, August 2nd WWPC will gather for worship at Montreat Camp & Conference Center’s Anderson Auditorium (off of Assembly Dr on Look Out Rd) led by Dr. Jacqueline Lapsley, Pastor Jessica’s Old Testament professor and current President of Union Presbyterian Seminary in Virginia. The service is a bit earlier than our normal gathering time; worship begins at Montreat at 10:30. Communion will be served and the Word will be preached, just at a different location! Please join us for this special opportunity to share in worship together with our wider community & Presbyterian family!
FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITIES Mark your calendars and get ready for a good time!
⸰ Friday, July 31st we’re taking it out to the ball game! Join us for a fun evening of $1 hotdogs, fireworks, and of course, baseball at the Asheville Tourists game at Hometrust Park! First pitch is at 6:35 and tickets are only $11 if we have 20 or more folks interested! Call or email Pastor Jess to reserve your spot by July 22nd!
⸰ Saturday, August 15th Please join us for an evening with Kristin Kobes Du Mez, author of Jesus and John Wayne at Montreat Camp & Conference Center’s Anderson Auditorium the evening of Saturday, August 15 at 7:30! Dr. Du Mez is known for writing that “explores the intersection of religion, gender, and politics in an ‘urgent and sharp-elbowed’ way that does not refrain from presenting the hard truths that history has to offer Americans—and especially American Christians. Her unflinching examination of the American church, however, is ultimately a call to confession, a call to lament, and a call to greater faithfulness.”
Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at montreat.org/events/an-evening-with-kristin-kobes-du-mez. If you’d like to join folks to go dutch for dinner beforehand, please let Pastor Jessica know!
⸰ Thursday, September 3rd we’ll go see The Odd Couple at the Flat Rock Playhouse! Join us for this, “classic cocktail of chaos and charm. Meet Felix: impeccably pressed, emotionally distressed, and suddenly single. Meet Oscar: charmingly rumpled, habitually late, and blissfully allergic to coasters. When Felix moves in with his old pal Oscar after a marital meltdown, neatness meets nonsense and the sparks fly….as laughter fills the living room in Neil Simon’s effervescent comedy of friendship, forgiveness, and the fine art of driving each other crazy.” The show starts at 7:30 and tickets are $58 with a group discount available if we have 15 or more folks sign up. Call or email Pastor Jess to let her know your interest by July 31st! We’ll arrange car-pooling once we have final numbers!
