WELCOME VISITORS If you are worshiping here for the first time today, welcome! We are glad to have you with us. Please fill out a visitor information card, located on the right as you enter the chapel, and place it in the offering plate.
COMMUNITY JOYS AND CONCERNS: If you would like to add or update a prayer request, please contact the church office.
We remember in prayer: Ken and Eloise Murchison following the loss of his beloved sister, Marcia Murchison Magee ⸰ Rachel Sparling had hip replacement surgery on August 7 ⸰ prayers for pain management and swift healing for Donna Eagle Joslin for non surgical fractures in two vertebrae⸰ WWC graduate and friend David Iyileh, who has been staying with Sarah Anne and Tommy Eller this summer. We celebrate that David got his work authorization forms, but mourn that the funding for his PhD program failed to materialize. David is currently seeking local data-related work, analysis, reporting, workflow support, or similar roles. If you have any connections that might help him, please email Pastor Jessica. ⸰ There are several health needs in our spiritual community that remain unspoken. Please lift up those members requesting anonymous prayers for healing, trusting that our benevolent Maker knows their needs.
NEWSLETTER DEADLINE The next Newsletter will go out mid-August as school gets started. Please have any submissions and suggestions into the church office by Monday, August 10.
HELP WANTED Do you have a green thumb and some spare time? The Peace Garden Task Force could use some help. We have designed, created, and dedicated the John E. Koegel Peace Garden in front of the Fellowship Hall. We have come to realize, however, that the aging joints of our team are making it hard to maintain the garden over time. If you would be willing to help with routine maintenance (weeding, pruning, and watering), please notify Chrisann Ohler (chair) at drchrisann@aol.com.
VRQ:
⸰ The journey to rebuild the VRQ is underway, and they want you there to celebrate with them for Groundbreaking at 1329 Tunnel Rd on Thursday, August 13 at 11:30 as they gather to officially kick off construction!
⸰ You are invited for a short tour of the Veteran’s Village (1430 Tunnel Rd) on Monday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. This is where volunteers from our church have served lunch since Hurricane Helene in 2024 while the Veterans’ Restoration Quarters (VRQ) is being rebuilt. WWPC volunteers have served the VRQ residents and staff on the fourth Friday every month for more than 16 years.
PRESBYTERY EVENT Warren Wilson Presbyterian Church will be hosting a Presbytery-wide opportunity for folks to hear more about the decisions made at our denominational body’s General Assembly, which was held earlier this summer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Please let Pastor Jess know if you’re available to help with set-up or clean-up or hospitality for this special event, which will take place from 9am-2pm on Saturday, August 29th. Look for more details and registration information soon!
FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY
⸰ Saturday, August 15th Please join us for an evening with Kristin Kobes Du Mez, author of Jesus and John Wayne at Montreat Conference Center’s Anderson Auditorium the evening of Saturday, August 15 at 7:30! Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at montreat.org/events/an-evening-with-kristin-kobes-du-mez. If you’d like to join folks to go dutch for dinner beforehand, please let Pastor Jessica know!
⸰ Thursday, September 3rd we’ll go see The Odd Couple at the Flat Rock Playhouse! Join us for this, “classic cocktail of chaos and charm. Meet Felix: impeccably pressed, emotionally distressed, and suddenly single. Meet Oscar: charmingly rumpled, habitually late, and blissfully allergic to coasters. When Felix moves in with his old pal Oscar after a marital meltdown, neatness meets nonsense and the sparks fly….as laughter fills the living room in Neil Simon’s effervescent comedy of friendship, forgiveness, and the fine art of driving each other crazy.” The show starts at 7:30 and tickets are $58 with a group discount available with 15 or more folks. Call or email Pastor Jess to let her know your interest by August 11! We’ll arrange car-pooling once we have final numbers!
