Dear friends,
This past Sunday was a very special day here at Warren Wilson Presbyterian. If you were not able to be here, this was the Sunday we welcomed the new students to campus, and to our church–always one of our favorite Sundays of the year.
But this year we enjoyed an added bonus: we also got to welcome Lynn Morton, the new president of Warren Wilson College. And even more than that, Lynn was gracious enough to help lead our annual Litany of Welcome and Commitment, which she co-led with WWC Chaplain, Brian Ammons. (As the name suggests, this is a piece in which we invite the congregation to pledge their commitment to welcoming the students and inviting them to share with us in our shared life and ministries.)
Following the litany, I then invited everyone with a connection to WWC, past or present, to come forward and, together, we laid hands on Lynn (see the above photo) and invited God’s blessing to be upon her as she undertakes this exciting and challenging new chapter in her life, and in the life of the college.
Following the service the Ransom Fellowship Hall was filled to overflowing with long-time members and new students, new friends and visitors, all sharing together in a bountiful pot luck feast.
As I said, it was a celebratory Sunday. And here is my sermon from this special day.
